Staff Have Orientation Meeting and Supper
.
Laurelbrook staff members gather before orientation meeting. In the midst of a week of orientation meetings and general vocational training, the Laurelbrook staff as a whole enjoyed an evening consisting of supper, worship, and consideration of Laurelbrook procedures and principles. The August 12 evening began with supper consisting of sandwiches, potato salad, chips, sweet rolls, and something to drink all arranged and prepared by acting assistant academy principal Maudie Westfall and her crew.

After supper, the staff took time to have a group picture made. Then Joel Padin, the boys’ dean, had worship. Before he began his talk, he had staff members go around introducing themselves and saying “Jesus Loves You.” Then he talked about Jacob wrestling with an angel who turned out to be Christ. This was an opportunity for Jacob to repent. Jacob wouldn’t let go and finally got his blessing albeit with a corresponding physical defect he carried with him for the rest of his life. Meanwhile Satan was putting hatred in Esau and trying to get him to kill Jacob. The bottom line is this – are we praying for each other or working against each other?

Paul Frechette, Lauelbrook’s business manager, then opened the business part of the meeting by mentioning the bell that rings at 10:00 a.m. each day. This, he emphasized, was a call to prayer. And one of the things everyone needs to pray about is the Labor Department case. Their lawyers have until September 13 to file an appeal from Judge Collier’s decision in favor of Laurelbrook.

After Paul Frechette’s remarks, various people took staff members through the various sheets in the packets handed to them. The meeting closed about 9:30 p.m.
