 Girls Host Boys  Under the direction of Juanita Schoonard (the head dean) and Maricel de la Pena (assistant dean), the Laurelbrook academy girls put on a banquet for the Laurelbrook academy boys in the Center Building the evening of November 8, 2009. The theme was the universe.As the girls waited in the banquet room, each boy entered the door with a rose, which he presented to the girl he had been matched with. Then they paused inside the large star that decorated the door for a picture and went and took their seats. Staff members Yolanda Guerra and Donna Rigdon served the guests while Dan Rigdon and Leesa Hampton dished up the food in the small Center Building kitchen.
After dinner, everyone was treated to a video of a person talking about the wonders of the universe, especially its size and complexity. The speaker also discussed the complexity of the average human being. All this illustrated God’s care and compassion for the human race on this relatively small planet.
After the video, Maricel de la Pena had prayer and dismissed the boys. After a session of picture taking, the boys departed – and the girls and their sponsors and adults cleaned up the banquet area.
