Everyone Enjoys the Christmas Party
.
Laurelbrook students, staff members, retired people, and guests enjoyed a Christmas party in the school auditorium the evening of December 13. The auditorium platform was decorated with a Christmas tree at each end and the large star used for the girls’ banquet in the center. There were three rows of tables running the length of the auditorium decorated with greenery and candles and special place mats. The food was served from a set of tables set up next to the back wall.

As soon as nearly everyone was seated, Robert Zollinger, the interim academy principal, welcomed everyone and prayed for the food and evening. Everyone then enjoyed the good food and fellowship. Right after the meal, Ron Oxentenko, Laurelbrook’s president, supervised the elementary students in distributing baskets to staff families and small stockings to academy students. “While the music participants were getting ready for the program, Ron Oxentenko told the story “The Gift of the Magi”.

The evening’s program began. Then the Laurelbrook Academy Choir sang two numbers – “Spread Joy” and “People Need the Lord”. Argie (junior) and his brother Karl (sophomore) played four clarinet duets--“Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” and “Mary, Did You Know?” and “Away in a Manger” and “The Gift of Love”. The Laurelbrook Elementary School choir sang two numbers – “Still, Still, Still” and “Jesus Loves”.

The Laurelbrook Academy Choir sang a Christmas musical titled “The Glory of Christmas” and then continued with “Gloria”. The choir ladies sang “Gesu Bambino”. The choir then sang “Alleluia, Our Redeemer Came” and “Interlude”.

The Laurelbrook Instrumental Ensemble, accompanied by Donna Kanna on the piano, played four numbers – “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, “Joy to the World”, Angels We Have Heard on High”, and “Silent Night”. The congregation sang along the ensemble on the last stanza of “Silent Night”. Two beginning instrumental students – Erin (sophomore) and Gabby (9th grader) – joined the ensemble for this last number.

Ron Oxentenko, Laurelbrook’s president, closed the program with prayer. After prayer, students and staff members gathered for a group picture.
